"Namakaokaha'i" - Original Art

This original acrylic painting is a tribute to Namakaokaha‘i, the fierce and graceful Hawaiian goddess of the sea. Known in Hawaiian moʻolelo (storytelling) as the sister of Pele, Namakaokaha‘i commands the ocean’s power, from the gentle summer swells of the south to the towering winter surf of the north.

She is both creator and destroyer. Her tides have shaped the islands and swallowed the shorelines. In her ancient battles with Pele, land and sea collided to give rise to Hawaiʻi itself. In this painting, she stands poised at the shoreline, her presence serene yet commanding, surrounded by the waves she governs.

Some say if you look close enough, you’ll see her shadow dancing in the ripples between the sets.
